Born and raised in Scotland, Chris travelled the world extensively experiencing different cultures before settling in Venezuela. An extreme jungle guide, chef, sailor and general good time guy Chris and his Venezuelan family are an integral part of Jakera.
Tim lives in Europe and is usually your first point of contact with Jakera. Tim works closely with our network of agents and other partners, manages enquiries and pre arrival support. Main job is to make sure you are fully briefed/prepared before you arrive in Venezuela!
Brendan is Scots/Irish, came to Venezuela for a holiday and never left! He has managed Jakera Lodge at Playa Colorada, led numerous student groups, been involved in special projects and is an important part of what makes Jakera tick!
Mercedes has a finance and administration background and manages our school in Merida. Mercedes has been with Jakera for many years, has worked on special projects, and is now responsible for delivery of our student programs in Merida.
Marlene makes our guests in Merida feel ‘at home’. Marlene is an excellent chef specialising in local dishes. They say that those who prepare food are ‘giving love’... Marlene will help you enjoy your time in Merida.
A modern languages graduate, Daniela has been in charge of Spanish teaching in Merida for the last two years. Overseas experience includes working as a Spanish language assistant in St Mungo's RC High School and Falkirk High School, both located in Falkirk-Scotland for an academic year. Daniela enjoys combining grammar points with interesting and controversial topics to help students increase vocabulary and grammar skills in a fun and interesting way.
Luis is based in Playa Colorada and will help students prepare for their Travelling Classroom expeditions. This means familiarising students with equipment and techniques in Mochima National Park before leading trips to Caripe, Orinoco Delta and Gran Sabana.
Harrison is our lead Pemon guide from Gran Sabana and has led numerous trips to Orinoco Delta and Gran Sabana. He has an encyclopaedic knowledge of the flora and fauna you will encounter during the Travelling Classroom.
Isaias is our ‘Basic Level’ Spanish teacher. He has been working for Jakera for a little over 4 years. His favourite spots to give class are on the beach in Playa Colorada or on the top of Mount Roraima Tepui in the Gran Sabana!
Antonio is our ‘Culture & History’ teacher. He has worked for Jakera for many years and is famous for his knowledge of Venezuelan culture and ecology.

Venezuela is bursting with wildlife. Over the years we have adopted many orphaned and neglected creatures. In Merida we work closely with the local animal sanctuary/zoo. We look forward to sharing these encounters with you...
Michael is our newest Jakera intern and can be found in every department. He loves guiding and thrives on helping people see the real world and experiencing nature at it´s finest. With a background in outdoor education and a passion for the raw and wild, Michael will make every effort to ensure you can a positive, safe yet challenging trip.
Napoleon famously observed that, "an army marches on its stomach…" This is no less true for our students at Playa Colorada who are fueled by Griselys, who cooks nourishing dinners Monday to Friday. Loved by all for not only her food but her amazing energy around camp. Also the perfect person to practice Spanish with!
Liliana fields the many questions that students have each day and makes sure everyone is where they need to be for; Spanish lessons, volunteer assignments, properly packed and provisioned for Travelling Classroom expeditions, currency exchange, departures and arrivals… you get the picture! Liliana keeps everything at Playa Colorada ticking over and is uber organized!!
Arlette is our newest member of the staff at Playa Colorada. She teaches Spanish at all levels but it doesn't stop there. A very social person, she loves talking to clients and sharing cultural information. Watch out, she likes to dance!
Caelan is our youngest member of staff at Playa Colorada. He is currently undergoing rigorous training. We like to think our business is 'future proof' and Caelan is an excellent example of Jakera's forward thinking!
No school would be complete without a 'Janitor'! Manuel is our maintenance man - an integral part of our crew, he is always on hand to make, fix, fetch, carry, cook, drive or any of the other thousands of things he can do. He is one of the friendliest guys in Venezuela!
