The longest waterfall in the world plunges down from the western flank of a gorge in the middle of the Auyan-tepui. With a total height of 979m, and free fall of 807m, it is more than 19 times longer than Niagara. The water that leaves the summit takes fourteen seconds to reach the bottom.
The journey to Angel Falls by river boat unveils a collage of lush jungle, rampant rapids, serene lagoons and 700 indigenous species of plants. There’s excellent hiking or mountain-biking in the area and you’ll enjoy relaxing in the swimming pools. The Pemon-Indian village of Canaima is a great place to kick-back and the whole area is abundant in waterfalls.
Angel Falls is probably the best known visitor attraction in Venezuela. However, though magnificent the Angel Falls are one of MANY waterfalls and unique features to the Gran Sabana. Sir Arthur Conan themed his most famous work, 'The Lost World' on this area owing to the 'otherworldy' feel to this place. It has featured more recently in the opening scenes of 'Jurrasic Park' and even more recently Jakera helped Discovery TV produce the award winning series 'Out of the Wild - Venezuela' from here. There are many ways to get here and much to do - for those who are time starved we can arrange a heli safari, or if you prefer extended hiking expeditions encountering the indigenous Pemon Indians along the way. See 'Program Itinerary' for some examples.
