THE ORINOCO DELTA

Inhale the sweet smell of the jungle, serene and lush, derived from a magically active ecosystem; watch colourful soaring birds, fluttering azure butterflies the size of plates; hear chasing predator fish and see and feel the exotic wildlife shaking the trees. Experience timeless encounters with the Warao, as they get around by dugout canoes with their families, as they have done for the past 20,000 years.

Warao ‘The people of the Canoe’ are a tranquil happy people who live in scattered dwellings with only the occasional settlement. They travel through this vast labyrinth of rivers, fishing and gathering the fruits of the jungle. They are just as curious as we are, fascinated even, as we pass in our bright high tech kayaks. Our recent encounters have been the first by outsiders.

The Delta is teeming with exotic creatures; anacondas, cappuccino and howler monkeys, crocodiles, river otters, manatees, chiguire and piranhas to name but a few.

There’s only one way to truly immerse yourself in to this magical world.
