15 DAY KAYAK TRIP – MOCHIMA / ORINOCO DELTA. No experience necessary

Mochima Day 1 : Free pick-ups from Barcelona Airport at any stage during the day (or the night before). Sunset Island introductory paddle with island restaurant meal. Accommodation at Playa Colorada (the red beach)

Mochima Day 2-6 : Depart Playa Colorada for five unforgettable days paddling in the Caribbean. Mochima National Park has an abundance of dolphins that play near you and other fish life (sometimes even whale encounters). We camp on deserted islands and palm filled beaches. Snorkelling in the crystal clear waters (the water is very warm). Really a sea kayakers paradise.

Mochima Day 7 : Rest day. Some time for a little R&R at Caripe, a pleasant easy going village for some washing and of course visiting the famous Cueva del Guacharo (an extensive and magnificent Cave).

Mochima Day 8 - 14 : Paddling the sublime Orinoco Delta. This is the Warao Indian area (people of the canoe). We will paddle their traditional waterways - going deep, deep into untouched areas. Watch as the Indians become amazed at seeing us in this isolated area. Learn about their unique culture. Try traditional foods caught and gathered in this dense and seemingly endless jungle. Encounter red howler and cappuccino monkeys, piranhas, anaconda, river otters, rare manatee, pink river dolphins huge macaw parrots, and much more. This is truly a unique and wonderful experience.

Mochima Day 15 : Make connections with your outgoing flights. We will be sorry to see you leave, but you will leave with great photos and even fonder memories.

LOS LLANOS

3 DAYS ROAD, RIVER & HORSE SAFARI

The Los Llanos trip is one of our best adventures you can do from Merida. It’s a three-day expedition to Venezuela’s lower planes. The llanos are located at the southern foot of the Andes. It’s an area with rich ecosystems partly due to its two extreme seasons, which present many challenges to all species of animal and plant life that dwell in it. The trip to Los llanos will take you through six different ecosystems and will get you in direct contact with different species of wild animals. LD

Day 1 : Paramo tour and visit the little mountain towns of Tabay, Mucuchies, the road market of Mucuruba and the Mucubaji Lake located at 3600 mts altitude. You will arrive in Los Llanos in the late afternoon. After dinner you will go on a night safari looking for the Venezuelan Spectacle Caiman (caiman cocodrilius) the most successful of all crocodilians in the world. BLD

Day 2 : Start with a morning boat ride up “Rio Guaritico”. Guaritico River is one of the most amazing rivers in the llanos as far as wildlife is concerned. You are likely to see fresh water dolphins, the matamata and galapago turtle, spectacle caiman, otters and at least 30 different species of birds.

After the river safari, you will go back to the camp to taste a delicious Pabellon Criollo, which is our national dish. In the afternoon we will head out into the Sabana again in jeeps and then on foot, into the muddy swamps in search of the Giant Green Anaconda (the biggest snake in the world). There will also be a chance for a spot of fishing in the evening, for Piranhas and Venezuela’s national fish, the Peacock Bass. That same night you will enjoy a Llaneros party and will learn how to dance Joropo (the traditional dance of Los Llanos).

Day 3 : In the morning, you’ll go on a two hours horse ride followed by a lunch of freshly caught Piranhas. Then it’s back up to Merida for dinner!BLD
