LOS ROQUES
LOS ROQUES NATIONAL PARK.
The pristine National Park Archipelago of Los Roques is located 150kms north of Caracas and is the largest marine park in the Caribbean. In the middle of a dazzling azure Caribbean ocean rises 50 islands each with virgin white beaches, turquoise lagoons and marvelous coral reefs.
It is without any doubt one of the most beautiful natural areas of Venezuela. Sailing, scuba-diving, snorkelling, kayaking, windsurfing, kite-surfing and sports-fishing make this an ideal location for the water-sports enthusiast and for those who like soaking up the sun in paradise.
The species in their habitat and man's little intervention in this beautiful place, make these islands and keys, amongst the most beautiful in the Caribbean Sea.
The small community of locals living on the main island Gran Roque live in harmony with the islands, all buildings being simple and single storey, an model example of ecotourism. The islands have a great reputation for fine cuisine and you’ll enjoy an almost bohemian culture.
Sailing
With a consistent breeze and a paradise of keys and bays to explore to yourself, sailing is one of the most popular pastimes here. In the past the islands were a refuge for pirates and buccaneers. We offer various sizes of sailboats and powerboats for charter.
Windsurfing and Kitesurfing
Due to the consistent wind that blows year round Los Roques has become a world-class resort for Windsurfing. There are a couple of companies renting equipment and offering tuition.
Sport-fishing
Los Roques has become well known as one of the world’s hotspots for sport-fishing for Bonefish. Its extended shallow areas protected by offshore reefs are the habitat of abundant populations of this specie, renowned amongst fly-fishermen for their intensive fights. Fly-fishing gear can be rented and there are expert guides available. The offshore waters are rich with giant pelagic predators for those who’d rather sit back and relax, these include Marlin, Sailfish, Barracuda, Wahoo, Mahi-mahi, Jurel, Tuna, Mere and Redsnapper.
Transport is by plane from Caracas (30 minutes) or Margarita Island (50 minutes) which we can arrange.
