DONATE

After two years of lockdown and continued sanctions from the US, some basic commodities are non-existent or in very short supply in Cuba. In addition to personal items, you are encouraged to allocate a few kilograms of your luggage allowance to the following items, which will be donated to our partner organizations and form an important part of your volunteering commitment. These items are in short supply and would be gratefully received and distributed by your hosts:

Due to the sanctions imposed by Cuba’s nearest neighbor for over 50 years, many basics that we take for granted are in short supply. Together with our Cuban partners, we have created an innovative scheme to deliver practical assistance to the Cuban people.

We invite all our guests to bring a few kilograms of items from the list above. You can ask family, friends, and neighbors to contribute to this effort. We are not asking you to spend money buying these items new. In our experience, most households already have some of these items unused or underutilized, such as unwanted gifts. By using up some of your baggage allowance and asking around, you will make a huge difference to the lives of the people you will be living with during your time in Cuba. You will be amazed at how little waste there is here – recycling is not a lifestyle choice, it is a way of life.

When you arrive at your Casa, your host will sort these items into appropriate themes and explain the strategy for distributing them. Hopefully, it may be possible to accompany your host when making a delivery of themed items to our partner institutions. It is important to give thoughtfully and sensitively, and we have taken care to ensure that recipients need these items and appreciate our involvement

EXPLORE CUBA WITH US - COUNTRYWIDE!

You will have the opportunity to join trips to the beaches of Havana. If you wish to travel further during or after your stay at Jakera, your host will provide advice on the best transportation options, such as buses, trains, or taxis, to reach the following exciting destinations.

VIÑALES (mid South West)
Visit Cuba’s famous tobacco farms in Viñales. Surrounded by a unique karst valley, tobacco plantations and atmospheric caves. Viñales is a peaceful, charming town with some of Cuba’s most welcoming people.

MARIA LA GORDA (South West tip)
Renowned for its diving, idyllic beaches, untouched nature and laidback vibe, Maria la Gorda is the perfect spot to wile away some time under the Cuban sun.

BARACOA (Eastern tip)

Remote, unique and arguably one of the most beautiful places in Cuba, Baracoa has a wealth of natural gems to discover and swoon over.

SANTIAGO DE CUBA (South East tip)
Santiago de Cuba has a revolutionary history and an exciting mix of cultures, which results in a vibrancy in the air and an artistic flair in the streets.

CAMAGUEY (South East)
Built to stop ongoing raids by pirates, the maze-like streets of Camaguey are slightly confusing, but nevertheless an amazing place of colour, culture and discovery.

TRINIDAD (South mid)
Be immersed in the Afro-Cuban rhythms of Trinidad’s music scene. Colourful houses, cobblestone streets, wonderful people, great food and breathtaking vistas over cerulean seas make Trinidad a firm favorite among visitors.

CIENFUEGOS (South)
A delightful city referred to as the ‘Pearl of the South’, Cienfuegos was designed beautifully by the French but emits a definite Caribbean vibe.

SANTA CLARA
Villa Clara is a town with more than 300 hundred years history. Its warm untainted beaches, its endemic flora and fauna and its authentic Cuban flavor are some of the gifts this island gives to its visitors.
It was the 8th town founded by the Spanish colonizing power in the XVI century. Here you can discover the many stories of San Juan de los Remedios. Walking around this town or navigating the waters in the Hanabanilla lake reminds you vividly of what Che Guevara would have enjoyed there. In the Ernesto Che Guevara square you can visit where his remains where they have been resting for more than 50 years in this historical place.”

PLAYA GIRON
Playa Girón is in the south coast of the island and it also is an amazing destination. The famous battle where 1500 locals defeated an army of Cuban exiles sent from Miami in less than 72h took place here. In the town museum you can find lots of information related this and other historical landmarks. This south beach is beautiful. You can enjoy the flora and fauna and find local guides to walk you around wild sharing their extensive knowledge of the area. If you like
scuba diving, you can enjoy the coral reefs, fresh water cave systems, sunken ships and the variety of tropical fish.

VARADERO
Varadero is known by some people as the best beach in the world and it isn’t hard to see why. The shiny white sands, the fresh tropical breeze and the quiet waters of the Atlantic Ocean offer you the perfect landscape for rest and relaxation.
For those who are seeking for adventure, Varadero covers almost every water sport you are willing to practice. From scuba diving and snorkeling to sailing and swimming with dolphins.
You can also practice some golfing in the top-notch golf course from the Golf Club or go for a historical hike to Ambrosio Cave.
Considering this range of possibilities this is one of Cubas’ top destinations.
